The EAGLES have hatched! Expected Student Learning Results drafted!

February 11th, 2007 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

At the last Student Programs Committee meeting, the group determined skills and attributes that all SAS students should attain through their time at SAS.

A sub-committee then created a draft of SAS Expected Student Learning Results (ESLRs) using the acronym EAGLES to organize them.

The Expected Student Learning Results (ESLRs) were defined in Parent Talk, November 10, 2006 as follows: Global student learnings which are defined as what each student should know, understand and be able to do upon graduation from the school. ESLRs are the end result of student learning gained from the entire school curriculum.

Please take the time to review the EAGLES below and enter a dialogue with the SAS community to edit them into a final version. What follows is a very first draft and will need to be word-smithed into a final document that will guide all activities to the attainment of the SAS Vision. Click on the blue “sas eagles” marker above to enter the dialogue and help create the final version.

Either post comments on the “sas eagles” page above or email comments to sarah.putnam@saschina.org and I will compile and give them to the Student Programs Committee. The Committee will next work on the EAGLES in their March meeting, and hopefully propose a final version at that time.

Communication

 Welcome to Eduscape!

In my 20 years of experience in schools, I have observed that one of the main reasons organizations fail to achieve their goals is due to the lack of effective communication among stakeholders.

This weblog (blog), under the name of Eduscape, is another attempt to develop a means of communication to SAS parents and teachers that is not intrusive, yet available. Through Eduscape I will try to give a glimpse and understanding of the big picture at SAS, as well snapshots I see as I attend to the my duties preK through grade 12 on both the Pudong and Puxi campuses.

Please feel free to ask me questions about SAS through the comment feature of this site.

Last spring, over 100 representatives of the SAS community created a Vision for SAS to achieve by 2012. If we are to achieve that Vision, we must work together with an understanding of the road map developed to achieve the Vision, as well as an understanding of what each stakeholder has to contribute.

At the Superintendent’s Coffees on Pudong and Puxi, November 16 and 20, Dr. Larkin listed the stability markers of excellent schools. Elements essential for continued success included a strategic plan, a profiled board and board leadership, followed by a faculty culture of growth and learning. (See the attached page for the complete list.) As the school moves through the year, please ask how you can help support developments that can ensure we attain and maintain all stability markers. Please write me if you are unclear what they are or wish further information. They are integral to the longterm success of SAS.
